After a quiet 2022 for Emergent (we published our last piece in February), I’m very excited to announce that Emergent is coming back with a bang in 2023! We’ll be posting 50 breakdowns this year analyzing 50 of the fastest growing businesses in emerging markets.

As a reintroduction (in case you’ve forgotten) my name is Mikal Khoso and I’m an early-stage venture capital investor and I was born in Asia, grew up in Africa and spent the last few years in the US. I’ve invested over $100m in 30+ startups across the US, LATAM, Africa and Asia. I’m fascinated by the business models, products and unique challenges and opportunities of building a startup in an emerging market.

Next week we’ll publish our first breakdown of the year analyzing Mexican online car buying platform Kavak and its unique growth story.
